Topanga Art Tile Spring Sale, March 7-21

 

PHOTO BY PAUL DOOLIN Above, Paul Doolin’s rendering of an eight-foot-high, full-color mural that will appear soon on the south wall of the Topanga Town Center plaza next to Topanga Art Tile’s iconic tower lamp. The latest of a number of other public art projects, the mural may well become yet another one of Topanga’s artistic landmarks.

Topanga Art Tile, located in the Old Topanga Center plaza, is having a spring sale of 40 percent off most in-stock items, such as small and large tiles, murals, decorative bowls and so much more, as well as discounts on new projects.

The Doolin family’s success centers around this family of multi-talented artists—mom, Leslie, and sons, Matt and Paul.

Their skills produce hand-painted tiles with botanic, classic and historical designs, mosaics, sculpture and embellishments for water features. Anyone who has seen their work cannot help but be dazzled by the masterful artistry of it.

Among their public art projects are the scenic mural for the Topanga Library; an aquatic-themed mural for the public pool at George Washington Carver Park in downtown Los Angeles; and the “Memorabilia Mosaic” for Disneyland’s California Adventure for the front of Schmoozie’s, a smoothie bar that won second place in the Spectrum Awards commercial category.

A dazzling 3-D porcelain flower garden wall for a local resident’s dolphin fountain, where calla lilies and other flowers seem to grow out of the wall, broke the barrier of tile as a one-dimensional surface application.

Among other water features are two pools, the one-of-a-kind “Magic Carpet Pool” and the “Turtle Pool,” aka “The Octopus’ Garden.”
