Something magical happened around 5 a.m. on May 27 at Topanga Days: Cowboy Breakfast at the Topanga Community House.
Fairgoers who arrived before 9:30 a.m. were greeted with a breakfast fit for a cowboy supervised by Cowboy Chef Arthur Nissman and the kitchen crew, among them three young girls prepping the food with diligence and a smile and sporting Feasting in the Milennium Topanga Days Kitchen Crew aprons.
While most of the town slept, Alex McCarty and her best friends forever Ivy Knudsen and Halli Smith stood alongside Nissman putting in their volunteer hours one bacon strip at a time.

These girls are a treasure to the Topanga name by volunteering at such a young age, Nissman said, as proud as if they were his own. This is what will keep this place going.
