UCSB Climate Change Workshops for Teachers

Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA) offers two teacher workshops, Climate Change and the Seasonal Cycles of Nature, in partnership with the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) Extension where teachers can earn two Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Credits.
The first of these professional development workshops is scheduled for June 22-23 with a field program on October 13 at the SMMNRA headquarters, and is geared for middle-school teachers.
The second workshop for high school and adult educators is scheduled for June 28-29, with its field program on October 20.
Both workshops are an introduction to phenology the study of seasonal cycles in plants and animals and how its used to track the effects of climate change on wild plants and animals. Each workshop will include hands-on activities, discussion and testing of classroom and outdoor activities customized for students.
To enroll: extension.ucsb.edu. Space is limited to 20 participants. There is a $70 fee but attendees will be reimbursed $150 to subsidize travel expenses.
