NatureBridge Receives $25,000 Matching Grant
May 31, 2012 -
NatureBridge, the largest residential environmental education partner of the National Park Service, today announced a call to action inspired by an anonymous matching grant.
From now until June 30, the unnamed donor will match every dollar raised, up to $25,000, to help NatureBridge reach more youth, provide more scholarships and strengthen the impact of educational programs in the Santa Monica Mountains and Channel Islands.
"NatureBridge holds a very special place in my heart, and the work they do makes a huge difference in the lives of our children, so I am thrilled to sponsor this appeal," said the donor. "Times are tough, and we must lend support to organizations that strive to educate, inspire and help shape tomorrow's stewards: we are investing in our future leaders."
Over the past two years, NatureBridge has reached more than 50 schools through environmental science education programs in Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and Channel Islands National Park. Through experiential field science curricula and lessons in history, social studies, geology and math, more than 1,500 students and nearly 400 adults have connected to nature through NatureBridge programs.
NatureBridge also conducted seven teacher professional development programs in Southern California in 2011, arming 179 teachers with training, resources and curricula to help meet the needs of state and federal education standards.
In addition, NatureBridge provided $50,000 in scholarship funds last year for low-income schools to enable them to experience the wonder and science of nature firsthand.
