Mel Brooks' musical comedy, Young Frankenstein, from the creative team of the 12-time Tony AwardŽ winning smash, The Producers, will celebrate its Los Angeles premiere at the Pantages Theatre with a limited two-week engagement through August 8, 2010.
Based on the Oscar-nominated 1974 film, Young Frankenstein is Mel Brooks' re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic novel. When Frederick Frankenstein, an esteemed New York brain surgeon and professor, inherits a castle and laboratory in Transylvania from his grandfather, the deranged genius Victor Von Frankenstein, he faces a dilemma: continue running from his family's tortured past or stay in Transylvania to carry on his grandfather's mad experiments reanimating the dead. In the process, he falls in love with his sexy lab assistant Inga.
Tony Award winners Roger Bart and Shuler Hensley reprise the roles of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein and The Monster in this Los Angeles premiere. Bart and Hensley, who both starred in the original Broadway production, will be joined by Cory English (Igor), Tony Award nominee Brad Oscar (Inspector Kemp / Blind Hermit), Beth Curry (Elizabeth), Joanna Glushak (Frau Blucher) and Anne Horak (Inga).
Young Frankenstein features a score of all new songs by composer and lyricist Mel Brooks including "The Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend," and "Life, Life," and the book penned by three-time Tony Award winner Thomas Meehan. Included in the production is a newly envisioned orchestration and staging of Irving Berlin's "Puttin' On the Ritz," a number featured in an iconic scene in the original 1974 film version.
Young Frankenstein opened on Broadway November 8, 2007, at the Hilton Theatre where it ran for 485 performances closing on January 4, 2009.
